Websites Vs Blogs

For centuries there have been Great Debates: Lincoln Vs Douglass, Coke Vs Pepsi – and today it may very well be Websites Vs Blogs. First up a little understanding.

While there has been much made from a business standpoint today as to getting a message out or promoting a business whether you should have a “website” or a “blog” - technically the lines are not that distinct.

The word “blog” is a shortened form of the word “Weblog” and as such form a purely technical standpoint there is no difference between a Blog and a Website – a Blog by its very nature is a Website.

So that’s it end of debate, right? No not really. Because there is a difference between a “Weblog” and a more conventional Website – and it has to do with content and audience.

In a nutshell the critical difference between a Blog and a traditional Website is conversation. While both Websites and Blogs are designed to give information and news about a given topic, a Blog is designed to be more of forum. A two-sided interactive arena where the visitor can come not only to gain information about a certain topic, but actively participate in the views expressed on the topic by adding their own posts.

Blogs are inherently easier then putting up a traditional website. You do not need to know anything about “code” or HTML, or web design to create and post to a Blog. They are simple and text based, and the navigation is easier then on a typical Website.

The ease of creation and maintenance of Blogs has given millions a “voice” on the Web that would not have had the ability or the money to create a more standard website.

So what does all this mean to you as an Affiliate Marketer? Obviously your goal is to drive traffic to your ads and to get people to click on them and take action – so whether you post your affiliate ads on Blogs or Websites, really depends on the same old question when it comes to any kind of Advertising and Marketing – who is it that you are trying to reach?

Blogs tend to attract the Search Engines more than Websites will, so most experts in successful affiliate marketing suggest you have both Blogs and Websites, and use a content rich Blog to drive traffic to your affiliate site.

You are permitted to use Google AdWords on a blog. In order to get AdWords into your blog, go to what ever template you used to create your Blog from blogger.com or wherever, and then just add your Google codes into the template.

You can get the Google codes from the members area of the Adsense program - obviously you will have to decide what size of ad block you want, and where you want it to appear on your blog, and its just that easy.
